Old leaves crunched under our feet as we made our way to the cute little bridge in the Fernwood Picnic area. The bridge still had some left over snow from the week before. Once we were on the other side, the ground was pretty icey. Josh actually was running and sliding down the ice by the end of our session! This was a beautiful spot in Kaysville for these two’s engagement photos! It has a special place in McKell’s heart since she grew up playing in this area. I loved the cute bridge and path, but especially the view from the side of the mountain of the sunset! This couple was a joy to work with and it really felt like a fun date playing with smoke bombs and Holi Color Powder!
Here is McKell and Josh’s love story as told by McKell 🙂
When Josh and I first met in college, we were at a Halloween Dinner Theatre that I had organized. He had volunteered to be one of the actors but I had actually never met him before then so when he and I first got a good look at each other across the room, I felt a rush of that old black magic. And of course walked up to the guy next to him and started flirting/talking to that guy! Josh and I got to talking and he and I just had this flirty, fun conversation that neither of us forgot. Because he and I only saw each other infrequently at college, anytime he saw me, he’d usually come up and say something snarky which I absolutely loved. But the timing was never right. I actually almost got married between the time I met Josh and he first asked me out, and when I was single, he was dating someone. But apparently he always kept me in the back of his mind as someone fun and sassy, so when he finally heard I was single again he asked me out. Like you heard him say during out shoot, he had been trying to remember the last girl he had feelings for and immediately thought of me. But he didn’t have my number and didn’t know when he’d see me again, so he asked over Facebook Messenger. Funnily enough, I was actually on a date with another guy when I got the message and honest-to-goodness did a fist-pump and said “Yes!”. And the rest is history!
I had been ruining his plans for a week, apparently. He had had the ring for a month or so before asking me and had been carrying it around with him everywhere. But everytime he thought he might propose, I would do something or say thing so that it just wasn’t the right moment. On our one-year anniversary, he had planned to relive our first date and wander around SLC but I didn’t want to do that, I actually begged him to take us snowboarding. So up the mountain we went. After a few hours of that, it was snowing and just beautiful so Josh said to himself that he’d take me up the gondola to the top of the peak and propose to me up there….. but I had other plans. So finally the next day, he and I were alone in his room, just hanging out and cuddling on the bed when he said to me “You know, you’ve been messing with my plans. I’ve been wanting to ask you a big question but we always end up doing something else.” My heart was pounding at this point, I kept thinking “Wait, what’s happening right now?? Is this happening now?” So he reached into his sock drawer of all places (classic, I know) and cuddled up close and asked if I would be his wife. It was the sweetest thing. I hated the idea of a crazy over-the-top proposal, and always imagined him proposing exactly how he did, so it was perfect.
I’m most looking forward to celebrating my future life with Josh with all my friends and family on my wedding day. For my marriage though, I was telling Josh just last night that I want to marry him because I want him, meaning all the goods and the bads and the funnies, in my life everyday.
Josh and I both loved doing the photos on the rocks actually, when all three of us got a bit lost on our way back to the car. It was so random and so hilarious, we had a blast.
I had a blast with you both! I am so glad they still liked me after I got us lost off the trail trying to find our way back to the car haha. I wish you the most happiness and am so excited for you two to be getting married!!!
