There’s something about the untamed beauty of Utah’s mountains that feels straight out of a dream—especially when your engagement session includes snowcapped peaks, golden light, and thousands of sheep migrating right before your eyes.
Mary and Cody’s engagement session was pure magic from start to finish. They flew a private plane from Michigan to Wendover, Utah, where I picked them up in my truck for an adventure in the wild. Little did we know, we were about to witness something truly surreal.
As we wound our way up the rugged mountain roads, we spotted a small group of sheep grazing on a distant ridge. Naturally, we had to stop. We stepped out, soaking in the crisp mountain air, with the majestic snow-capped peaks behind them. The scene was already breathtaking—but then, the unexpected happened.
From over the ridge, thousands of sheep suddenly appeared, flooding the landscape like a living river of wool. They crossed the road right in front of us, surrounding us in every direction. It felt like stepping into another world—one where time slowed down and nature wrapped us in its wonder.
It took all of our energy not to reach out and pet them—they were just so cute! Not that they would let us even if we tried – with every click of my shutter they stopped and stared. Then would let out their little “baaas” and keep moving.
As we admired the sea of sheep, we noticed several sheep dogs watching over them. They blended in so well we hadn’t even seen them at first! With unwavering duty, they kept their flock safe, herding them with focused fierceness. When another car drove through, the dogs sprang into action, chasing it down to protect their sheep. That was our signal that the photoshoot was done. We immediately hopped back in the truck—safety first!
Right before Easter, this moment carried a deeper meaning, reminding me of the Good Shepherd. Watching the sheep follow their unseen guide over the ridge was a quiet but powerful reflection of faith, trust, and the love that leads us home.
As magical as the setting was, the real joy of this session came from Mary and Cody’s infectious laughter and undeniable love.
These two have been together since high school—seven years of growing, dreaming, and building a life together. They are the kind of couple that makes my job effortless. Every glance, every giggle, every quiet embrace felt like a moment from a love story I was lucky enough to capture.
“I can’t tell you enough how much I’m in love with these! You’re truly amazing at what you do!!!” – Mary
I cannot wait to photograph their wedding—it’s going to be just as breathtaking as their love story. Even more magical than we just experienced together.
